The two-day workshop led by two eminent Suárez-scholars, Daniel Heider and Daniel Novotný (University of South Bohemia) focuses on the metaphysics of Francisco Suárez (1548-1617) with particular attention to the problem of reflexivity.

Reading seminars, interspersed with lectures on the larger context, provide an introduction to Suárez’s theory of reflexion as it emerged in his first commentary on Aristotle’s De anima and in an essay on angelic cognition (De angelis). The program and the Latin texts are available here and here. An independent but thematically related lecture on Leibniz and the natural theology of the Chinese by Kim Ong-Van-Cung (Université Bordeaux-Montaigne), closes the workshop.
